While New Jersey is one of the wealthiest states in the country, a disproportionate share of New Jersey’s poorest residents live in Essex County. The United Way of Essex and West Hudson is committed to changing community conditions for Essex County’s most vulnerable residents. So, beginning on September 19, volunteers will lend a hand to make a difference in the community by building affordable housing for deserving Newark families at a construction site.
Volunteers will donate one full day each day during the week of September 19 to help Habitat for Humanity Newark (HFHN) improve the lives of low income families. All tools and materials will be supplied by Habitat.
"Lend a Helping Hand Week exemplifies the United Way system at work – making the most of caring for the lives of people in need," says Faith Vance, Coordinator for the United Way of Essex and West Hudson. For further information, contact Faith Vance at United Way offices 973-624-8300, ext. 249 or e-mail fvance@uwewh.org. or Don Blaesser at Habitat for Humanity offices, 973-624-3330.
